01
The problem
A social-compliance consultancy audits factories with 177 checks, interviews and photo evidence, kept until now in an Excel checklist and a Word manual.
Every finding becomes a corrective action the factory must resolve with evidence, and interview notes must never reach the people they describe.
02
Constraints
No connection on the factory floor
Inspections happen on phones and tablets with weak or no signal, so recording must work fully offline.
Two languages
Everything in English and Arabic, with AI-assisted Arabic reviewed by a compliance expert.
Confidential by design
Interview notes stay hidden from factory staff and client managers everywhere, on devices that can be lost.
Evidence cannot be lost
A dropped connection or a closed app must never lose a photo or save it twice.
03
Three key decisions
- Decision 1ADR-0001
Offline from the first release
Offline support was planned for later, but adding it afterwards would have meant rewriting the audit module, so inspections were built offline-first from version one.
Trade-offClient-generated IDs and conflict rules for every record, and a way to sign devices out remotely.
- Decision 2ADR-0002
A proven sync engine, uploads through the app
A hand-written sync engine is the code most likely to lose evidence silently, so self-hosted PowerSync brings data down while uploads pass through the app's own endpoint and its rules.
Trade-offOne more service to run, in exchange for not owning the riskiest part of the system.
- Decision 3Decision log #19
Devices check in, or lock
After 14 days without a check-in the app asks the consultant to reconnect, without losing data. Deactivating a user or signing out clears the device.
Trade-offTwo weeks offline means reconnecting before work, so interview notes never outlive a person's access.
04
Outcome
- Offline tests pass on Android and iPhone: photos survive the app closing mid-upload and are saved exactly once.
- Deactivating a consultant, or another person signing in, clears the device's offline copy.
- Every check, screen and report in English and Arabic.
The pilot starts in November 2026; its results will be added here.

01One audit across three standards, with every check's result counted.
02On the factory floor: one check at a time, saved offline.
03Findings become corrective actions with an owner and a deadline.
